{"id":8252,"date":"2019-02-06T20:29:34","date_gmt":"2019-02-07T03:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marialiberati.com\/?p=8252"},"modified":"2019-02-06T20:29:34","modified_gmt":"2019-02-07T03:29:34","slug":"celebrate-terminalia-with-a-sorbetto-cocktail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marialiberati.com\/freshsite\/2019\/02\/06\/celebrate-terminalia-with-a-sorbetto-cocktail\/","title":{"rendered":"You Can Celebrate Terminalia with this Sorbetto Cocktail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Once upon a time in Ancient Rome, Terminalia, was celebrated on\nFebruary 23rd to honor the God <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Terminus_(mythology)\">Terminus.<\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;\nAccording to Ancient Roman mythology, Terminus, was the ancient God\nwho protected boundaries and the feast was celebrated by landowners.&nbsp;\nTerminalia was the feast created in his honor.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;Here is a&nbsp; sorbetto cocktail (influenced by the Ancient\nRomans) to celebrate. It&#8217;s a healthy non-alcoholic cocktail. But I\nhave added a touch of sage, in honor of the Romans, who introduced\nthis herb as a medicinal plant to Europe from &nbsp;Egypt..it was\nalso known to have been touted as an overall tonic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><em>Orange &amp; &nbsp;Sage Sorbetto<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>4 cups spring water<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>1 1\/2 cups sugar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>filtered juice of 2 fresh oranges<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>skin of&nbsp;1 fresh orange and&nbsp; extra for garnish<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>5 sage leaves<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>In a saucepan place water, sugar and orange peel. Boil for\n20 minutes and until the sugar is completely dissolved. Place orange\njuice and sage leaves &nbsp;in another saucepan and heat for 5\nminutes over medium low heat to reduce the juice. Add in sugar\nmixture and stir over low heat for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Cool.\nThen filter the liquid, removing sage leaves and orange peel. &nbsp;Place\nliquid in a tight container, cover and freeze.&nbsp; When frozen,\nplace in food processor till &#8216;slushy&#8217;,&nbsp;then refreeze in a\ncovered container. Take out approx 3-4 minutes before ready to serve.\nServe in&nbsp; chilled&nbsp;fluted glasses, decorated with orange\npeel and sage leaves.
