Celebrate with these tips and a recipe from Gourmand World Award Winning Chef Maria Liberati.&nbsp;<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">A 23-year-old pharmacist at Tassel\u2019s Pharmacy in Latrobe, Pennsylvania created the <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>FIRST EVER<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> banana split in 1904! &nbsp;David Evans Strickler loved creating various kinds of sundaes at a nearby store\u2019s soda fountain. &nbsp;His first \u201cbanana-based triple ice cream sundae\u201d sold for 10 cents, which at the time was double the cost of any other sundaes. &nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><b>What\u2019s a Classic Banana Split?<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Served in a banana boat, a banana is split in half lengthwise, laid in the banana boat and slowly awaits its fate. Slowly, one scoop of vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry gets piled high on the split banana and now here come the delicious toppings. Crushed pineapple tops the strawberry ice cream, chocolate syrup covers the vanilla ice cream (I mean, DUH), and strawberry topping gently covers the chocolate scoop. The banana split isn\u2019t completed without a heaping of whipped cream, crushed nuts, and a pretty maraschino cherry on top.
