Pablo Neruda<br \/>\nIn Italy bread has a history of being something of value, so much so that an expression to describe a person that is \u2018worth his weight in gold\u2019 is to say that person is a \u2018pezzo di pane\u2019 or a piece of bread. No wonder titles of books like Il Bacio Del Pane and film titles like&nbsp; Pane, Amore, e\u2026&nbsp; abound..making of bread, breaking bread with someone is love!<br \/>\nWhen you buy a loaf of crusty, artisan, hand made&nbsp; bread think of all that went in to making that loaf..from the farmers that grow and harvest the wheat to the mill that grinds the wheat into a flour and then the person that kneads the bread and places it into the oven..<br \/>\nMy philosophy is to never throw away a valuable piece of bread, as long as it is still use-able. I&nbsp; make use of it in every way possible\u2026.<br \/>\nHere is a delicious way to use that leftover bread.. a&nbsp; cake called Sericaia- a Portuguese dessert<br \/>\nSericaia<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/d1doqjmisr497k.cloudfront.net\/~\/media\/Margao-PT\/Recipes\/sericaia.ashx?vd=00010101T000000Z&amp;hash\"\/><br \/>\n5 slices of crusty Italian style bread (day old or put in toaster)<br \/>\n2 cups of milk<br \/>\n5 eggs<br \/>\n1 cinnamon stick<br \/>\n3\/4 cups sugar<br \/>\n1 teaspoon vanilla<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nLine a casserole dish with baking paper, Place in sliced bread, cover with some of the milk till saturated. Let rest for 30 minutes. In a pan bil milk with cinnamon stick. When boiling ,remove&nbsp; cinnamon stick and remove&nbsp; from heat and let cool.&nbsp; Place eggs in a bowl with sugar and beat till frothy and well blended. Place in cooled milk mixture and pour over bread slices, Sprinkle cinnamon on top&nbsp; andbake in oven preheated to 375&nbsp; degrees for 30 minutes.
