{"id":4706,"date":"2012-10-02T17:58:06","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T00:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.marialiberati.com\/?p=4706"},"modified":"2012-10-02T17:58:06","modified_gmt":"2012-10-03T00:58:06","slug":"pasta-norma-la-callas-francesco-siciliani-in-celano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marialiberati.com\/freshsite\/2012\/10\/02\/pasta-norma-la-callas-francesco-siciliani-in-celano\/","title":{"rendered":"Pasta Norma &#124; Artistic Treasures in Celano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>copyright 2012 Art of Living,PrimaMedia,Inc\/Maria Liberati<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_ZJ4-yWUqABE\/R7l6T_qiNtI\/AAAAAAAACJA\/6HszHhK5kxk\/P1140023.JPG\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n(photo credit: primadanoi.it)<br \/>\nHidden away in the bayous of&nbsp; tiny little town in the mountains of Abruzzo- Celano..I discovered a gem of a museum hiding in the center..it is the Museo paludi (www,musepaludi.it)..besides the artwork saved from churches in the devastating earthquake in the city of L\u2019Aquila that were catalogued so carefully and hidden away in the backroom of the museum\u2026.artisans from all over Europe come here&nbsp; to restore painstakingly the masterpieces that are priceless\u2026an exhibit of Francesco Siciliani and his career was highlighted in the center of the museum\u2026<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.marsicalive.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/Mostra-celano-terremoto-opere-palasggo-viletto-19.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\nYou may not recognize the name or face but he was the person responsible for discovering Maria Callas \u2026and was one of the most important directors of some of the most famous operas and opera singers ..housed there were some of the original albeit hand written librettos from many of the operas..Siciliani was also famous for saying that he learned to read musical notes before he learned to read words.In 1948 Maria Callas triumphed in the opera Norma and returing home from the museum I had a strong urge to put on pot of water and make a dish of Pasta Norma\u2026<br \/>\n<img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/i17.fastpic.ru\/big\/2011\/0307\/20\/b3793b668f2fbe0e53f7192322126220.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n<strong>Pasta Norma<\/strong><br \/>\n1 pound spaghetti<br \/>\n1 pound fresh red ripe plum tomatoes<br \/>\n3 small fresh eggplants<br \/>\n2 cloves garlic chopped finely<br \/>\n1 handful fresh basil, washed and chopped<br \/>\n4 tblsps extra virgin olive oil<br \/>\n2 tblsps olive oil<br \/>\nWash eggplants and slice thinly , place into a bowl of cold water with vinegar, a dash of sea salt, let soak for 2 hours. Peel tomatoes and take out seeds,cut tomatoes into small pieces. Place olive oil into saute pan with chopped garlic, heat till garlic begins to turn golden. remove from heat, place in tomatoes, chopped basil, pinch of salt and pepper, place over low to medium heat and cook for 15 minutes, stirring.<br \/>\nDrain and dry eggplant slices and fry in 2 tablespoons olive oil. Brown on both sides and place on paper towels to soak up excess oil. Cook spaghetti till al dente.<br \/>\nPlace spaghetti in saute pan with tomato sauce, place in eggplant slices, toss to coat pasta with tomatoes.
