&nbsp;<\/span><strong><em>Michelozzo DiBartolommeo, or Michelozzo<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\" \/><o:p><\/o:p><\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\"><o:p><strong><em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\">Michelozzo DiBartolommeo, Michelozzo also spelled Michelozzi, architect and sculptor, was most notable in the development of Florentine Renaissance architecture.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\">Michelozzo acquired the skills of a bronze founder in the workshop of celebrated sculptor, Lorenzo Ghiberti.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>On or about 1420, they worked together on the &#8220;St. Matthew&#8221; for the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags\" \/><st1:PlaceType w:st=\"on\">church<\/st1:PlaceType> of <st1:PlaceName w:st=\"on\">San Michele<\/st1:PlaceName>, <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:City w:st=\"on\">Florence<\/st1:City>, <st1:country-region w:st=\"on\">Italy<\/st1:country-region><\/st1:place>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\">From 1427-1438, Michelozzo developed a partnership with the sculptor, Donatello.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They built several architectural and sculptural tombs.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Together, they built the pulpit (designed in 1428) at Prato Cathedral.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\">Michelozzi was closely associated with the De&nbsp;Medici family.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>He accompanied them went they went into exile at <st1:City w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Venice<\/st1:place><\/st1:City> in 1433.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>After returning from exile, Michelozzi&#8217;s architectural career began to develop in earnest.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>In 1436, he completed the renovation of the ruined monastery of San Marco in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:City w:st=\"on\">Florence<\/st1:City><\/st1:place>.<o:p><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\"><o:p>&nbsp;<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style=\"MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"FONT-FAMILY: Univers\">Michelozzi is credited with created several innovations in the architectural design of Florentine palaces.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>These architectural features are quite dominant in the palace that Michelozzo built for Cosimo de&#8217; Medici (1444-1459) now called the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;
