a bag of fennel seeds provides inspiration for an afternoon of ciambella baking….
A trip to the market today and fragrant fennel seeds caught my attention..and they have my attention all afternoon..for some serious ciambella baking
1 cup sugar
1 cup white or red wine
1 cup extra virgin olive oil
3 cups flour
2 tsps vanilla
1 tsp baking powder
pinch of salt
2 tablespoons fennel seeds
place all ingredients, except flour in a bowl, blend well, then work flour in a little at a time. Form a smooth dough. Coat hands with flour and form dough into little ciambella. Roll ciambella in some granulated sugar. Cover baking sheet with baking paper and place ciambella on top. Cook for 15-20 minutes in oven preheated to 350 degrees. Makes a perfect pairing with dry white or red wine.
