It can be overwhelming to think about trying to design your new kitchen, even though it’s also exciting. There are so many options available, and most of them seem like they are both beautiful and…probably would work? How are you supposed to know what you need with so many beautiful designs? Here are some important things to consider when designing your new kitchen.
Add Functionality
Whether you are remodeling an older home, or building a new one, you need to look towards the future of what you might need (or what a future owner might need) when accessing features in your home. Having accessible counters, fridge, and other accessories can help immensely. Making sure there is the ability to access the sink, for instance, from a wheelchair is not difficult, but highly useful as you age! Likewise, being able to access the deep portions of cabinets or tops of refrigerators is critical, but difficult with a walker or wheelchair. Thinking ahead is paramount.
Match the Style
Your floors should complement your cabinets and other features in your kitchen. You want to use beautiful and neutral tones, so as not to distract from your cabinetry and countertops. There are many sturdy options available to you in modern flooring. This can include wood laminates, which are easily installed and replaced if needed in kitchen areas, and natural bamboo, tile, stone, or other choices. There are options for every taste. Likewise, consider what will be simple for you to clean, and, if you do want functionality, what will be simple if needed for wheelchairs and other options.
Storage
Storage is always at a premium in a kitchen space! No matter what your needs, hobbies, or abilities in the kitchen, cabinetry always seems to get filled. Think ahead as to what needs you have for particular kitchen hobbies. It can be important to be able to store basic appliances, like toasters, crockpots, and blenders or mixers, away from cluttering the countertops. It can help to find expert assistance in determining how to best maximize the space you have available to you.
Whether you’re restyling a portion of the space or remodeling the whole kitchen, thinking ahead towards your future needs is a great idea. Make both the style and functionality suit your needs. Think towards what storage you need to have, both now and later. And then, sit back and enjoy your new and redesigned kitchen!
