We all have that one song, movie, smell or even meal that reminds us of what it was like to be young. Usually, this is something we often forget about, but when it comes to thought randomly, we cannot help but associate that with our childhood nostalgia. And more often than not, it feels joyful and brings back memories that we may have stored away in our memories.

We can also develop habits that relate to the sentimentality of being young. For Maria, this is eating Macedonia, an Italian style of fresh fruit salad. In her most recent book, “The Basic Art of Italian Cooking Diaries, Seasons,” she talks about how she ends every meal with Macedonia because she always ended dinner with this treat at her grandmother’s house when she was young. She says she was “conditioned always to have fresh fruit after her meals, but she feels that she has become more programmed to end a meal this way.”
