How To Take Care of the Trees on Your Property

If you are a property owner, then you must take care of your trees. They beautify your grounds and help improve your property value. Additionally, they may help lower your energy bills. Taking care of your trees can be fun because it gives you an excuse to spend more time outside.

Trim Them

One of the things that you need to do regularly is trim your trees. Trimming your trees will prevent the many dangers of overhanging limbs on your property. Trimming trees also makes them healthier. It helps them to grow stronger, so you are less likely to see damage after a storm. Fruit and flowering trees that are appropriately pruned put on more blossoms, which may result in a more abundant harvest in fruit trees. For many trees, the best time to prune them is in the late winter, right before they start to put on new growth.

Learn What Diseases Affect Them

Another thing that you will need to do is learn what diseases affect the trees you have on your property. When infections are not caught early, the tree may die. Anthracnose is a common disease that causes many tree species to lose their leaves early and may also cause twig deformation. Some trees are prone to scab, which can deform leaves and make them fall off prematurely if not treated properly. In addition, you should watch for signs of blight, particularly in evergreen trees. Treatment of these diseases can take many different forms. You may need to use a fungicide to get rid of them. With other illnesses, you may need to prune off the affected areas. Trees are less prone to become sick if the area around them is kept clean.

Water and Feed Them

Especially in young trees, you may have to water them regularly. The amount of water they need depends on the type of tree, but you will want to use a slow watering method as it will encourage them to put down their roots deep into the ground. You should also water trees at their drip line. You can easily find this imaginary line because it is where the tree’s canopy stops. Many trees also require fertilization as it helps them obtain the nutrients they need to grow properly.

Taking good care of your trees is easy with a little preparation work ahead of time. If you do, they will provide shade and beauty to your environment for years to come.
