The inventor of pizza as we know it today is attributed to an Italian baker named Raffaele Esposito in the 1800s. The story goes that King Umberto and Queen Margherita were traveling through Esposito’s town. To impress the royals, Raffaele topped the flat bread so popular at the time with ingredients in the colors of Italy: red tomato, white mozzarella and green basil.
